Job Description:
Section 1 - Position Summary
The Professional Engineer (PE) is a vitalcomponent of a team that
oversees the operation and maintenance of thewastewater conveyance
system (System). The System includes several hundredmiles of large
diameter gravity and pressure pipelines; as well as over 20
highcapacity lift stations. The PE acts as the project manager for
special projectsand studies in the System. They are also
responsible for quality control reviewof System projects managed by
the engineering department. Furthermore, theyinvestigate challenges
and offer solutions to optimize operation of the System.
Section 2 - Major Responsibilities
1. Serves as project manager for special projectsand studies in the
System including an extensive condition assessment program.
2. Participates in design meetings, studies, andconstruction
progress meetings associated with capital improvement
projectsmanaged by the engineering department.
3. Reviews studies, designs plans, specifications,submittals, and
change orders prepared by others for completeness and accuracyas a
quality control function.
4. Acts as a liaison between wastewater systemoperations and other
departments like engineering, planning,
maintenance,instrumentation, and purchasing.
5. Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of bidpackages for
projects funded through operations.
6. Monitors and evaluates wastewater flows.
7. Conducts field studies and tests to optimizeoperation of the
System.
8. Collects and compiles System information fordistribution to the
engineering department and outside entities.
9. Evaluates wastewater technologies, processesand equipment for
potential use in wastewater projects and maintains
wastewaterconveyance system operations preferences list.
Section 3 - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Professional Engineer licensed in the State ofTexas.
2. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Exceland management
software.
3. Understanding of wastewater principles andprocesses; as well as,
hydraulic engineering.
Section 4 - Education and Experience
1. Degree in Civil Engineering or other relatedfield received from
an accredited college or university.
2. Experience utilizing engineering design andproject management
software.
3. Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.
Section 5 - Environmental Factors
Activity Levels and Equipment Moderate physicallabor and
considerable mental attention required with some eyestrain.
Generallydesirable conditions with some outside visits to
work-sites with varyingenvironmental conditions. Considerable time
can be spent working with andviewing a computer screen.
Considerable time viewing plans, specifications andreading reports
and correspondence. Time will be spent at construction
sites,traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders to
access structures.Equipment used includes calculators, computer
